WAI'ANAE
Mayor to speak on landfill fate

Advertiser Staff

The Waimanalo Gulch landfill will be the topic of a Wai'anae Coast town meeting today with Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Nanaikapono Elementary School cafeteria.

The landfill is set to shut down next year, but Hannemann has insisted that expanding the landfill is the city's only real alternative.

The landfill has been a thorny issue for residents on the Wai'anae Coast, but Hannemann is asking for the community's support in keeping it open.

Today's meeting will include a discussion of the community's benefits package.
