Special Sunset on the Beach tonight in Waikiki

Advertiser Staff

A rare mid-week Sunset on the Beach is taking place tonight in Waikiki that will give movie-goers a chance to see the world premiere of "Life: Tears in Heaven," a Japanese movie based on the life of windsurfer Nasuki Iijima.

The film will be followed with a talk by Takao Osawa, the actor who portrays Iijima, and Iijima's widow, Hiroko Iijima.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with Na Pua Mai Ka Lani performing at 5:30 p.m. and the movie screening starting at 7 p.m.

Admission is free.

The movie follows Iijima and his family as he battles, and ultimately loses his life, to liver cancer. Iijima was the first and only windsurfer to compete for eight consecutive years in the World Cup Competition. It was during this time that he was diagnosed with liver cancer.
