Campbell hopes to light up by Sept. 21

Advertiser Staff

Campbell High is hopeful that its football stadium lights will be functional by the Sabers' next home game, Sept. 21, against Kapolei.

The school will learn today which company won bidding rights to fix the lights, athletic director Sam Delos Reyes said.

"We hope they'll have it done by the week of Sept. 15," Delos Reyes said.

He added he cannot be certain when the repairs will be completed.

"We're taking it week by week," he said.

Seven of eight light towers had their wires stripped by vandals before the Sabers' non-league game Aug. 17 against Roosevelt. A JV game that started at 5 p.m. was completed while there still was sunlight, but the varsity game was canceled when the lights did not function.

The Sabers' next home game was scheduled for Sept. 7 against Wai'anae. The JV game between the schools will be played on that date at 5 p.m., but at Wai'anae. The varsity game will not be played because it is the one Campbell will forfeit because of a game-ending scuffle over the weekend at 'Aiea. Both teams were ordered to forfeit their next league games by the O'ahu Interscholastic Association as part of their involvement in the fight.

Campbell has only two scheduled home games left. Its other home game is Sept. 29 against Radford. Campbell's last two regular season games are at Mililani and at Leilehua. If the Sabers qualify for postseason, they might get another home game depending on their seeding.
