Associated Press

Freshman Adam Maciejewski scored seven minutes into overtime as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men's soccer team opened its season yesterday with a 2-1 victory over visiting Chico State.

Michael Akinaka passed to Brian Noguera, who finessed the ball to a wide-open Maciejewski on the right of the goal. Maciejewski sent the ball across the goal mouth into the left corner to win it.

The Seasiders tied it 1-1 in the 35th minute on a goal by junior Shawn Blymiller off an assist by Sam Akinaka.

Chico State, which outshot BYUH, 11-8, scored seven minutes into the game when A.J. Carboneau ran down a long punt by goalie Brian Linne and beat BYUH keeper Doug Hansen to the ball.
