Kailua Road lane closures begin next week

Motorists can expect lane closures on Kailua Road near Kailua beginning Tuesday, the state Department of Transportation said today.The work marks the start of the final phase of the Kailua Road rockfall mitigation project. The $5.8 million project began in September 2006 after a series of landslides on the hillside adjacent to the road.
Similar lane closures will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. over the next two months as crews restore Kailua Road to its original configuration and install landscaping, curbing and gutters, the DOT said.
