Pahinui, Kaapana share billing Sept. 21

Advertiser Staff

Call it a meeting of two giants: slack key guitar legends Cyril Pahinui and Ledward Kaapana make a rare joint appearance at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Doris Duke Theatre, Honolulu Academy of Arts.

The Grammy and Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning ki ho'alu wizards each will do dazzling solo sets, then pair up for a no-holds-barred impromptu jam session that should put the sizzle into the evening.

The virtuoso guitarists not only are close friends for 30 years, they also have enduring performance careers, both as instrumental artists and as vocalist.

Pahinui's newest CD, "He'eia," has just been released on the Dancing Cat label.

Tickets: $25 for the public, $20 for art academy members.

Information: 532-8700.
