The city will hold a ceremony today to rename the Central O'ahu Regional Park the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park.

Mink, who died in 2002, was a congresswoman, City Council member, and a champion of equal rights for women.

She was the primary force behind the landmark Title IX legislation — renamed the Patsy Takemoto Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act — that prohibits gender discrimination by federally funded educational institutions.

The City Council, which had considered naming the Waipi'o Soccer Complex after Mink, last year voted to name the park, located in Waipi'o, in her honor.
