Hilo woman gets 10 years for selling meth to officer

Associated Press

HILO, Hawai'i — A Big Island woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling 1.9 grams of methamphetamine to an undercover police officer in 2004.

Brooke Davis of Hilo was convicted of second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.

The 31-year-old Davis was also sentenced to five years in prison for improperly receiving more than $6,000 in welfare benefits from the state. The two sentences are to run concurrently.

Hawaii County Prosecuting Attorney Jay Kimura says Davis acted improperly because she failed to inform the state that she was wanted in Oregon in a drug case when she asked for the benefits.

Kimura says Davis must repay the money to the state.
