Advertiser Staff

Honolulu held on to its ranking as the nation's fourth-biggest television market for the fast-growing Asian-American market, according to the latest research from The Neilsen Co.

The media research company estimated a total of 221,550 Asian television households in Honolulu, up 1,220 from a year earlier. The only markets larger than Honolulu were Los Angeles, New York and the San Francisco Bay area.

Nielsen Asians and Hispanics remain the fastest-growing segments of the population, with Asian television households increasing 3.9 percent and Hispanics by 4.4 percent over the last year. Last week Nielsen reported Honolulu was the 73rd largest overall television market out of 210 it tracks in the U.S.

Honolulu ranked as the 62nd-largest market for Hispanic or Latino households with 25,210.

Other data released by Nielsen shows Honolulu was the 115th largest metropolitan area for African-American television households. The city moved up one spot from a year earlier as the number of African-American households increased to 13,540.
