Hawaii gets $505K flu pandemic grant

Advertiser Staff

The state's efforts to prepare for a pandemic flu will be aided by $505,349 in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The extra money is to help communities strengthen their capacity to respond to a pandemic influenza outbreak and includes funding for establishing or increasing stockpiles of medical equipment and supplies. It also will go to continued development of plans, care sites and medical surge exercises.

The grant follows $2.13 million of funding the department announced for Hawai'i in June. That money was given to help hospitals and other facilities respond to bioterror attacks, infectious diseases, and natural disasters that might cause mass death.
