KAUNAKAKAI
Hunters plan Oahu protest

Advertiser Staff

The Moloka'i Hunters Association plans a protest against the Nature Conservancy starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at a gun show at Blaisdell Center.

The group objects to the Conservancy's plans to use professional hunters from New Zealand to control invasive wildlife on the island.

Hunter Walter Ritte said the Conservancy "has insulted our hunters by bringing in outside hunters to manage our wildlife, which is an important part of our economy."

The association is seeking new public meetings on the hunting program and on Hawaiian gathering rights.
