WAIMEA
Afro-Brazilian music Sept. 28

Advertiser Staff

To celebrate Brazil Independence Day, The Waimea Valley Audubon Center will host Sambada, an Afro-Brazilian funk music and dance group, at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28.

Capoeira master Papiba Godinho, founder of the group, leads the band through many styles, including Capoeira music, samba, reggae, funk and rock.

In February the group headlined three of the biggest carnival parties in California and was the featured band in the San Francisco Carnival in May.

The show is sponsored in part by the Brazilian Cultural Center of Hawaii. Tickets are $18 in advance, $22 at the door. For information visit www.alohagroove.com.
