Advertiser Staff

Hula halau from across the state will be participating in the 16th Annual Hula `Oni E Hula Festival tonight at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Tapa Ballroom. Among the 18 hula halau will be two groups from Japan.

The hula festival is hosted by Halau Hula `O Hokulani, which is led by na kumu hula Hokulani and Larry DeRego.

Larry DeRego said, "Every year we look forward to hosting this hula competition here at the Hilton Hawaiian Village as part of the Aloha Festivals. The culture and traditions that are shared among all of the halau is wonderful. It truly is a sharing of aloha through hula."

Hula halau will be judged on Hawaiian language, hula kahiko (ancient), and hula `auana (modern). Native Hawaiian arts and crafts will also be available.

Hula `Oni E begins tonight at 6 p.m.; it begins tomorrow and Sunday at 10 a.m. Tickets are available at the door for $20.
