The governor has released $800,000 to help turn the P&P Supermarket building on North School Street into a second health clinic for Kokua Kalihi Valley.

A planning and design phase for the project is under way. Renovations of the building are set to start in April and be completed by January 2009.

"Renovations are needed to provide adequate facilities for the increasing numbers of low-income residents who rely on Kokua Kalihi Valley's medical, dental and behavioral health care services," Gov. Linda Lingle said in a news release.

The governor also released $200,000 for improvements to the Kalihi Valley Nature Park.

The funds will go to installing walking and hiking paths, community garden plots and more.
