The Boise State football team wants — and may get — another chance at Hawai'i soon, minus the Warriors.

The Broncos' choice of available bowl games is reportedly the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl, which could be granted as soon as tomorrow if the University of Hawai'i beats Washington tonight and earns a Bowl Championship Series berth.

As the Western Athletic Conference attempts to iron out its bowl lineup, the leading scenario puts Boise at Aloha Stadium on Dec. 23 against a Conference USA team, provided the Warriors advance to a BCS bowl. Tulsa (9-3) or East Carolina (7-5) are the most likely matches for Boise here.

The Hawai'i Bowl was reportedly the overwhelming choice in a vote of Broncos' players according to an unconfirmed report. Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier did not immediately respond to inquiries from The Advertiser.

Pete Derzis, vice president of ESPN Regional Television, which owns and operates the Hawai'i Bowl, declined to discuss specifics except to say, "there's a scenario where Boise State could possibly play in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl. Obviously, I think we would be thrilled to showcase Boise if such a scenario plays out."

The 10-2 Broncos, WAC runner-up to Hawai'i after a 37-29 loss last week, otherwise would likely stay home to play in the Humanitarian Bowl against Maryland (6-6) or Georgia Tech (7-5), which just fired its coach. The other option would be the New Mexico Bowl against either hometown New Mexico (8-4) or Texas Christian (7-5).

If Boise comes here, Fresno (7-4), under current circumstances, would likely go to the Humanitarian Bowl and the winner of Louisiana Tech (5-6) and Nevada (5-6) to the New Mexico Bowl.
