Accused Kahala jewelry thief charged with drug offenses

Advertiser Staff

A Waimanalo man recently charged with the alleged theft of $22,600 worth of jewelry from Macy's at Kahala Mall is now facing drug counts following his arrest Friday.

Dean Mitchell Gouveia, 48, was arrested at 1121 S. Beretania St. at 2:05 p.m. on an $20,000 arrest warrant stemming from the alleged Nov. 13 theft of a jewelry display case from Macy's. Following his arrest, it was determined Gouveia had posted bail for that case at District Court on Nov. 21 reportedly negating the warrant.

Gouveia, however, was arrested for allegedly possessing drugs and paraphernalia at his 2:22 p.m. booking at HPD's main cellblock on the warrant arrest. He has since been charged with third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possession of paraphernalia. Bail is $35,000 pending an initial appearance tomorrow at District Court.

Gouveia has 66 prior convictions and has been arrested over 150 times.

He is already facing a five-year sentence for an October conviction for felony second-degree theft and misdemeanor third-degree theft unrelated to the Kahala jewelry case.
