Maui hosting anti-terrorism training exercise

Advertiser Staff

Multiple government agencies will be involved in a two-day anti-weapons-of-mass-destruction training exercise on Maui starting Wednesday, the same day the Hawaii Superferry is scheduled to resume service to the island.

The timing of the two events is coincidental, officials said.

The annual training exercise is hosted and led by the 93rd Civil Support Teams and includes participation by the 95th CST-California, the 94th CST-Guam, State Civil Defense, Maui fire and police departments, the state Health Department's emergency response radiation assessment team, the Hawai'i National Guard's 93rd Weapons of Mass Destruction civil support team, the Coast Guard and Maui Civil Defense.

The exercise will test communications, operations and the incident command system and the public will see fire, police, Coast Guard and National Guard units moving in and through several areas in west and central Maui.
