Boise State, East Carolina to play in Hawaii Bowl

Advertiser Staff

Boise State University has accepted an invitation to play in the 2007 Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl, the game's executive director Jim Donovan announced today.

The Broncos will face East Carolina University (7-5, 6-2 Conference USA).

"We are very pleased to have No. 22-ranked Boise State University as the Western Athletic Conference representative in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl" Donovan said. "It is very impressive what head coach Chris Petersen and the entire Bronco football program have been able to accomplish in the last two years. A combined 23 wins over two seasons is more than remarkable, it is really unprecedented. The Broncos certainly have earned the right to play in paradise."

The Broncos (10-2, 7-1 WAC) will be making their eighth overall bowl appearance.

Their last bowl appearance was a 43-42 overtime victory over Oklahoma in the 2006 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

"The Bronco football program is extremely excited to accept an invitation to this year's Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl," Boise State University sports information director Max Corbet said. "We will be facing a great opponent in East Carolina, and I know the Bronco players and coaches look forward to representing Boise State University, the city of Boise and the state of Idaho in this outstanding postseason game."

Boise State director of athletics Gene Bleymaier, and Petersen were unavailable for comment today as they were attending the annual football team banquet.
