High-surf warning issued for Oahu, Kauai, Maui

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service this afternoon issued a high-surf warning for the north and west shores of O'ahu and Kaua'i and the north shores of Ni'ihau, Moloka'i and Maui.

The warning is in effect until noon tomorrow.

A high-surf advisory also was issued for the north-facing shores of the Big lsland for the same time period.

Surf faces on the north shore on O'ahu, Kaua'i, Ni'ihau, Moloka'i and Maui are expected to be 20 feet to 30 feet tonight, then fall to 14 feet to 18 feet tomorrow afternoon.

Waves faces on the west shores on O'ahu and Kaua'i will rise to 16 feet to 22 feet tonight and drop to 10 feet to 14 feet tomorrow afternoon, the weather service said, adding that some waves may be twice as high as predicted.

Surf on the east and south shores will be three feet or less through tomorrow

A large northwest swell is the reason for the surf conditions, and the weather service said the warning and advisory are expected to continue as another large northwest swell is expected Wednesday night and into Thursday.
