Surf could hit 30 feet on North Shore today

Advertiser Staff

With surf expected to reach 30 feet along north-facing shores, the National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning until 6 a.m. Tuesday and a high surf advisory for west-facing shores, where surf is expected to reach 18 feet.

Surf along north-facing shores is expected to rise to 20 to 30 feet overnight and continue through today, making for dangerous swimming conditions.

Surf along west facing shores will be rising to 15 to 18 feet, the National Weather Service said. The advisory is for all islands except the Big Island.

Elsewhere, surf will be much more tame, with eastern and southern shores each seeing surf 3 feet or less today.

The large northwest swells will maintain advisory or warning level surf along north and west facing shores through Wednesday. Surf will remain near the warning threshold along north facing shores Thursday when a new north swell arrives.
