UH fans buy 5,000 Sugar Bowl tickets

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i season ticket holders bought about 5,000 tickets to the Allstate Sugar Bowl by the time the Stan Sheriff Center box office closed at 4 p.m. today — and through the UH athletic department's Web site, which operates around the clock.

Tickets cost $125 each, with a $10 service charge.

Panda Travel, one of UH's partner travel agents, sold another 150 travel packages to the Louisiana Superdome for the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl, which include tickets to the game.

UH and its opponent, the University of Georgia, are contractually obligated to each sell 17,500 tickets.

University of Georgia fans, meanwhile, not only sold out their allotment on Sunday but bought another 5,000 Sugar Bowl tickets, Georgia officials said.

However, demand remains strong among UH supporters. Panda Travel has a waiting list of 1,500 people hoping to buy travel packages and Sugar Bowl tickets.

Sales of Sugar Bowl tickets for nonseason ticket holders begins Thursday morning.
