Moanalua Freeway fatal crash victim had heart attack

Advertiser Staff

A 72-year-old man who lost control of his vehicle on Moanalua Freeway Sunday morning and jumped the median had a heart attack, according to the office of the city Medical Examiner.

Harold W. Ring, of Honolulu, suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure and had a heart attack due to clogged arteries, according to the ME.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday near the Pu'uloa off ramp, Ring was traveling east in a white 1995 GMC Sonoma truck when his vehicle veered right, jumped the grassy median and came to rest in the grass.

Ring was taken to the Tripler Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
