Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i wide receiver Jason Rivers was named Western Athletic Conference offensive player of the week today.

Rivers was the go-to receiver in the Warriors' 35-28 victory over Washington Saturday night at Aloha Stadium that clinched an undefeated regular season and a berth in the Sugar Bowl.

Rivers, a senior from Waipahu (Saint Louis School), caught 14 passes for 167 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Warriors rally from a 21-point deficit.

Rivers scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to help Hawai'i close to 28-21 at the half. In the fourth quarter, he caught a 40-yard pass for the game-tying touchdown. Rivers tied career highs for receptions and touchdowns in a game.

The Warriors will play Georgia Jan. 1 in the Sugar Bowl at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.

Nevada linebacker Ezra Butler and Fresno State punter Kyle Zimmerman were named WAC defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
