Kilauea Point closing for repairs

Advertiser Staff

A construction crew will begin repaving the asphalt path to the Lighthouse today, meaning Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge will be closed for a day or two depending on the scope of work and progress in paving almost 200 yards.

Certain areas of the path will be torn up to replace with new road base. The remainder of the path will be over topped.

This is the third major project that will be completed this year at Kilauea Point. Early this year the restrooms at the Visitor Center were remodeled and an aluminum railing along the path to the Lighthouse was installed.

The refuge is only open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and construction activities will run throughout the daylight hours.
