McLachlin in tie for 11th at PGA Q-School

Parker McLachlin, a Punahou School alum, shot his second straight 5-under-par 67 yesterday and moved into a tie for 11th place after the fifth of six rounds at the PGA Tour National Qualifying Tournament in Winter Garden, Fla.

McLachlin is at 17-under 343 and shares the 11th spot with three others.

The top 25 finishers and ties will earn 2008 PGA Tour cards, while the next group of players nearest 50 will get full Nationwide Tour exemptions. The remaining players in the 166-man field will receive conditional Nationwide Tour status.

Frank Lickliter II shot a 4-under 68 to take a five-stroke lead.

The 38-year-old Lickliter, a two-time winner on the tour, has a 28-under 264 total. He played the Panther Lake course in the fifth round.

Brett Rumford (68) was second, Chris Stroud (64) was third at 22 under, and Jason Allred (72) followed at 21 under. Tommy Gainey (69), Travis Perkins (69) and Tag Ridings (67) were 20 under.

LPGA QUALIFYING

PARK WINS EVENT

Former UCLA star Jane Park completed a wire-to-wire victory in the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament yesterday in Daytona Beach, Fla., topping the 17 players who earned full 2008 playing status.

Park, the 2004 U.S. Women's Amateur winner, had a 17-under 274 total.

Su A Kim (66) was second, followed by Hee Young Park (70) at 10 under.

The next 35 players received conditional status.

NEDBANK CHALLENGE

IMMELMAN VICTORIOUS

Trevor Immelman shot an even-par 72 and won the Nedbank Challenge by one stroke yesterday despite three straight bogeys over the closing holes and a late challenge from Justin Rose in Sun City, South Africa.

Immelman, who won the $1.2 million first prize, finished at 16-under 272. Rose shot 73 after a double-bogey on the 18th at the Gary Player Country Club.

Ernie Els (72) was third at 11 under in the tournament he won three times. His round included five birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey on the 17th.
