Hoku leads Hawaii stock index higher

The Bloomberg-Honolulu Advertiser Hawai'i Index rose as a double-digit percentage gain by Hoku Scientific erased declines of six stocks in the index.

The 11-member stock index climbed .39 points to 94.89, as four issues rose, six fell and one remained unchanged.

Hoku jumped 25 percent or $1.97 to $9.80. Shares of the Kapolei-based technology company have risen 275 percent since the start of the year.

Other stocks that gained included Cyanotech, Alexander & Baldwin, and Hawaiian Electric Industries.
