Murder charges pending against Honolulu fisherman

By Rod Ohira

Murder charges are pending against a 26-year-old man in connection with a fatal stabbing early today aboard a fishing boat at Honolulu Harbor.

Taniera Takentarawa is a crewmember of the fishing vessel Vui Vui, moored at slip 37 at Pier 36. Takentarawa was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder at 3:55 a.m. and is being held at the main police station cellblock.

The suspect lists no permanent local address.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office today identified the victim as Bright Obed, 34, of a Honolulu address. Obed was not a crewmember of the Vui Vui, police said.

An autopsy today determined Obed died from a stab wound to the right neck that cut blood vessels. He also had sharp-force injuries to the scalp and back. Manner of death is classified as a homicide.

Police investigating a complaint of a man with a knife at Pier 36 discovered Obed lying facedown aboard the Vui Vui. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
