CFB: Dorrell won't coach UCLA in Las Vegas Bowl

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES — Ousted UCLA football coach Karl Dorrell has decided not to coach the Bruins when they take the field against BYU in the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl later this month.

When he fired Dorrell on Monday, athletic director Dan Guerrero said he would let him decide whether he wanted to coach the Bruins' last game of the year, Dec. 22 against BYU.

Dorrell said today he thinks it is in the team's best interest if he doesn't show up. He says he doesn't want to take any attention away from his former players.

Defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker will serve as interim coach.

Dorrell, UCLA's head coach for five years, was fired after a disappointing 6-6 regular season.
