Advertiser Staff

A powerful front packing strong southwest winds and heavy rains is expected to hit O'ahu about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

At 10 p.m., the National Weather Service said the front was nearing Kaua'i and moving at about 15 mph.

Ahead of the front, strong southwest winds are blowing across the Islands, prompting a high wind warning.

The weather service said residents should expect winds up to 60 mph. Winds will be strongest with the addition of heavy rains and thunderstorms.

The duration of the storm over O'ahu is expected to last about an hour. Maui County will see heavy rains and high winds by Wednesday morning.
