BWS urging water conservation; one main still broken

The Board of Water Supply is continuing to stress water conservation across Oahu today.

As of 4 p.m., the most critical areas are: Windward Oahu, Kahuku, North Shore, and the Leeward Coast.

Although power is being restored slowly to various areas, conservation island wide is still necessary to allow our reservoirs to be refilled and our system to recover, BWS spokeswoman Su Shin said.

"We are asking our customers to limit their water use to essential needs only -- drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene -- and postpone other water-using activities such as plant irrigation, laundry, and car-washing," Shin said in a released statement.

In regards to two main breaks, the reported break in an 8-inch main in Kailua this morning was actually a 4-inch main break, which as been fixed. The break occurred at 346 Ilimano Place, between Ilihau St. and the end of Ilimano Place. It affected four houses, and water has been restored.

Crews are currently conducting road repairs, which should be completed by tonight.

Repairs to a 4-inch break in Kalama Valley continue. The break was reported at 8:16 a.m. at 450 Maloo Place, between Honokahua and end of Maloo Place. Nine homes are without water, but a spigot has been set up for use on the fire hydrant near corner of Maloo Place and Honokahua Street.
