Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu medical examiner's office yesterday released the identities of a motorcycle operator and pedestrian killed in recent traffic accidents.

The motorcyclist who died Sunday in a 9:36 p.m. crash on Wika'o Street in Wahiawa was identified as Andrew Michael Caruso, 27, of Mililani.

The Army confirmed that Caruso was a soldier assigned to Schofield Barracks.

Also, a man killed Nov. 21 when he fell into the path of a city bus on North King Street near 'A'ala Park was identified as James R. Slusher, 50, of Honolulu.

Both deaths were ruled accidental by the medical examiner's office.

CITY TO RECEIVE TRANSIT GRANT

Honolulu will receive a $4.3 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration to purchase 32 transit vehicles.

The city will buy four new fixed-route buses, 10 paratransit buses and 18 paratransit vans.

"This grant is an important infrastructure investment for Honolulu," U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye said in a news release.
