Preps: Weather washes out MIL soccer matches

By Robert Collias
The Maui News

Four Maui Interscholastic League soccer matches were postponed by the weather yesterday.

Boys and girls games between Lahainaluna and King Kekaulike, and between St. Anthony and Seabury Hall, were washed out.

Kamehameha Schools-Maui athletic director Kurt Ginoza, the coordinator for MIL soccer, said that yesterday's postponements bring the total number of MIL soccer games to be rescheduled to 10 — five boys, five girls — over the last week due to weather.

Ginoza said no make-up dates have been set, but that he will meet with schools affected by the postponements soon. He added that no decision has been made on tomorrow's three scheduled matches.

"We will take it day-to-day,'' Ginoza said to The Maui News.

Steve Colflesh, the AD at Seabury Hall, said that his boys basketball team left at 10:30 a.m. for the Big Island to play in the St. Joseph's Invitational. King Kekaulike and Lahainaluna are also part of that event.

The Seabury Hall Wahine Classic girls basketball tournament is scheduled to begin today at the Erdman Athletic Center. Teams from Kaua'i High, Leilehua, Kapa'a, and Ka'u are supposed to join Hana, Seabury Hall, Maui and King Kekaulike in the event, which has four games slated each day through Saturday.

"Certainly it is threatened, but we will make that determination tomorrow,'' Colflesh said yesterday morning. "We wouldn't be able to play it today, I don't think.''

Colflesh said that travel to the Olinda campus would be the biggest hurdle.

"I can't imagine asking teams to come up here in this kind of weather,'' he said.

Maui High AD Scott Soldwisch said that all after-school activities for the Sabers were canceled yesterday.
