Winds subside, but plenty of rain still a possibility

The storm front that battered much of the state yesterday has weakened quite a bit and stalled over the Big Island, according to the National Weather Service.

Moderate to heavy rain will continue today on the Big Island but the strong winds have subsided everywhere except for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.

All other islands can expect showers today, some of them heavy at times.

Here's how the next few days are shaping up:

Today: Showers likely, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. West wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday night: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Southwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Light east wind. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
