"The most interesting thing about a poem is that it doesn't exist until it has its music. Every poem has a music. And until it has that, it's not a poem. It's just information or data. ... " says poet C.K. Williams. He gives his first Island reading — a free one — 7 p.m. tonight at Punahou School's Wo International Center, in the Luke Lecture Hall.

The "music" of Williams has won numerous awards, including the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize (2005), the National Book Award (2003, for "The Singing"), a Pulitzer Prize (1997, "The Vigil") and the National Book Critics Circle Award (1987, "Flesh and Blood"). Information: http://punahou.edu/media.

GAMES, FACTS, QUOTES THAT FIT IN YOUR POCKET

Perk up your coffee break with "Coffee Time," a pocket-sized book of puzzles and brain teasers that comes recommended by the master himself — Will Shortz, crossword editor of The New York Times. In addition to the games, it includes fast facts on coffee, and notable quotes, like this one, from Josephine Baker: "He was my cream, and I was his coffee. And when you poured us together, it was something."
