In a league featuring three of the top teams in the nation and at least 10 NCAA Division I prospects, Kamehameha senior Kanani Herring still managed to rise above the crowd.

Herring, an electrifying 5-foot-10 outside hitter, was named Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I Player of the Year for the second straight season after a recent vote of league coaches.

Herring led the Warriors — ranked No. 4 in the nation by prepvolleyball.com — to their third straight ILH championship by coming up big down the stretch. She had a match-high 13 kills in a league tournament semifinal win over Punahou, then had 15 kills in a 25-22, 27-25 sweep of 'Iolani for the overall title.

But her game was not limited to spikes. Herring also was outstanding in blocking, serving, passing and digging.

And her tremendous leaping ability and powerful hitting gave Kamehameha an intimidating presence in tight situations.

Herring is joined on the ILH DI all-star first team by fellow Warriors Jordan Meredith and Bekah Torres, 'Iolani's Chelsea Hardin, Leinani Keanini and Malie Yoon, and Punahou's Anuhea Keanini and Sydney Yogi.

Meredith, a 6-foot senior outside hitter, evolved into a consistent threat and an effective complement to Herrring and Torres this season.

Torres, a 5-10 senior middle blocker/opposite, gave Kamehameha another All-State hitter for opponents to defend. She had a match-high 10 kills in an early season victory over Punahou and contributed eight kills in the win over 'Iolani for the ILH overall championship.

Hardin, Leinani Keanini and Yoon were key factors in helping the Raiders shock the Warriors in a September upset and go on to finish an undefeated regular season.

Hardin, a 5-11 junior middle blocker, was a steady force on defense and contributed with timely kills on offense.

Leinani Keanini, a 5-7 senior outside hitter, was a dynamic offensive player and spiritual leader. She had 11 kills in the upset victory over Kamehameha.

Yoon, a 5-8 sophomore setter, had big shoes to fill replacing four-year starter Kapua Kamana'o. But she improved steadily throughout the season and efficiently operated a balanced 'Iolani offense.

Anuhea Keanini and Yogi helped Punahou finish a strong third in the ILH race. Like her sister, Anuhea — a 5-6 junior outside hitter — was a dynamic and spiritual leader for her team.

Yogi, a 5-2 senior libero, also led by example with consistently outstanding back-row defense.

'Iolani's Jenic Tumaneng was named Coach of the Year in his second season at the helm.
