Advertiser Staff
Big Island rescue workers were scheduled to resume searching at first light this morning for a hiker who was reported missing Wednesday night on a hiking trail near the summit of Mauna Kea.Searchers began their hunt for the missing hiker about 7 a.m. Thursday morning along the Humu'ulu Trail, from Hale Pohaku to the summit, but severe winter weather on the mountain curtailed search efforts.
A county helicopter assisted in the search between the 9,000- and 10,000-elevation marks until it was forced to abort due to weather conditions.
Details about the missing hiker were not immediately available.
Temperatures at the summit this morning were reported to be between 10 and 15 degrees.
