Weather expected to begin clearing up this weekend

Widespread and occasionally heavy showers as well as isolated thundershowers will persist throughout the day, according to the national Weather Service.

A low-pressure area just north of Kaua'i should begin moving off to the northeast this evening after which the atmosphere will become more stable, forecasters said.

Nonetheless, there will be scattered and numerous showers tomorrow, according to the Weather Service.

Breezy southwesterly winds are expected today but should weaken over the weekend.

Trade winds should return by Monday.

Here's what to expect during the next few days:

Today: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 28 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind between 5 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
