Maui mayor appeals for storm help

Associated Press

WAILUKU — Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares is asking for federal and state help to cope with the aftermath of a severe storm that swept the island.

Tavares has given no estimate but says the heavy rains and winds have caused heavy damage on the island.

She says it was more than just a "passing little rain shower."

In 50 years of living on Maui, Tavares says she's never seen a storm hit so many places at once.

Meanwhile, rains and some winds are still buffeting the island.
