Advertiser Staff

A 43-year-old Wai'ohinu woman has been indicted for first-degree negligent homicide in connection with a 2005 collision that killed her boyfriend at the Kahuku scenic lookout in Ka'u.

Leonard Kainoa Sr., 52, of Na'alehu died from injuries he suffered when he was struck by a 1995 Ford pickup truck while he was on foot at the lookout at the 75-mile marker of Hawai'i Belt Road at 11:30 p.m. Nov. 23, 2005, police said.

The indictment filed in Hilo Circuit Court yesterday alleges that Summer Prettyman Oliveira was driving negligently under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the collision occurred.

If convicted, Oliveira would face up to 10 years in prison.
