Three airport viaduct lanes to be closed for repair

Advertiser Staff

The three rightmost lanes of the H-1 Freeway airport viaduct will be closed Sunday in the westbound direction from the airport on-ramp to the Kamehameha Highway/Aloha Stadium/Arizona Memorial off-ramp for concrete pavement repair work, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The lanes will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. All on- and off-ramps will stay open.

The roadwork is part of a $9.1 million project to repair potholes along a nearly three-mile stretch of the viaduct between Middle and Valkenburgh streets. The speed limit near the repair area will be reduced to 15 mph to minimize vibrations on the viaduct while a fast-forming concrete used to fill potholes cures.

Westbound motorists are advised to drive with caution, allow for extra travel time or to use alternative routes, including the H-201 Moanalua Freeway or Nimitz Highway under the viaduct.
