Six Isle timeshare resorts rank high

Six Hawai'i properties made the top 25 list of timeshare resorts published by www.RedWeek.com, a timeshare exchange, rental and resales Web site.
The list was based on a poll of the site's registered users.
Hilton Grand Vacations Company's timeshare at the Hilton Hawaiian Village was the top-ranked Hawai'i property, checking in at No. 4 on the list. The other Hawai'i properties were Marriott's Maui Ocean Club (6th), The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas (10th), Kaanapali Beach Club (11th), Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club (13th) and Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club (19th).
The top three in the poll were The Manhattan Club in New York City, Disney's Beach Club Villas in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., and Harborside Resort at Atlantis in the Bahamas.
SIX ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS FUNDED
Defense contractor BAE Systems has donated $107,000 to the University of Hawai'i Foundation for six scholarships at the university's College of Engineering.
Of the six scholarships, four are for students who have participated in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology robotics program. The other two scholarships are for returning kama'aina students studying on the Mainland.
"These scholarships support the college's interest in developing a larger, technology-based workforce in Hawai'i," said Peter Crouch, dean of the College of Engineering at UH-Manoa. "Additionally, the support for the FIRST robotics program will help top students remain in Hawai'i. We are grateful to BAE Systems and look forward to working with them in the future."
ARCHITECTURAL FIRM WINS AWARD
Hawai'i architectural firm Green Sand Inc. was honored with a merit award and $2,500 for a design that was submitted to the Portland Courtyard Housing Competition.
The city of Portland, Ore., organized the competition, which sought housing design solutions that included a shared courtyard and environmentally friendly features. Green Sand placed second in the "Eastern site competition."
Matthew Goyke, Green Sand founder, said he was honored to receive the award.
"We feel that these kinds of living environments have real potential not only for the city of Portland, but here in Hawai'i, where demand for housing as well as home and condominium prices are extremely high."
Green Sand's design included a rainwater harvesting and management system, stair towers that provide light and ventilation for each unit, and photovoltaic panels to make the most of available sunlight.
HALEKULANI CUSTOMER SERVICE CITED
Halekulani won the 2007 Leaders Club Gold Award for exemplary customer service at the recent Leading Hotels of the World Ltd. 2007 International Convention in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
The Leaders Club is a guest loyalty and recognition program of the Leading Hotels of the World Ltd. Winners of the 10th annual Leaders Club Awards were selected from responses to post-stay questionnaires and letters received by the Leaders Club Services Department from members.
"It is apparent from the guest satisfaction surveys and letters of appreciation we have received from our Leaders Club members that Halekulani has justly earned the coveted Gold Award," said Paul M. McManus, president & CEO of The Leading Hotels of the World Ltd.
