Kona's Wee, HPU's Dalgaard top in local finishers field

Advertiser Staff

Bree Wee, 27, of Kailua, Kona was the top local female finisher at today's Honolulu Marathon.

She finished the 26.2-mile race in 3 hours, 3 minutes, 10 seconds. The top local finisher awards are given to Hawai'i residents who were not raised here.

Esben Dalgaard, a Hawai'i Pacific University oceanography major from Denmark, finished in 2:36:40 to claim top local male honors. Dalgaard, 22, who recently finished his eligibility for the HPU cross country team, ran with the leaders of the women's race for most of the marathon.

He also received support from his HPU teammates who followed him along the course on bicycles.

Dalgaard's name and time weren't listed on initial postings of race results and he needed to find race officials to verify his finish.
