Former Miss Hawaii establishes Shidler scholarship

Advertiser Staff

Candes Meijide Gentry, Miss Hawaii 1999 and a graduate of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, gave a $25,000 gift that will be matched by the Jay Shidler's fund to create the Candes Mejide Gentry Endowed Scholarship at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa Shidler College of Business, the school announced recently.

The endowed scholarship is for full-time students majoring in business with preference to students interested in entrepreneurship.

Gentry was raised in Hawai'i and graduated from Punahou School. As a scholarship recipient, she attended Babson College and Columbia University, but decided to complete her education at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.
