Russian wins women's race at 35th Honolulu Marathon

Russian Alevtina Biktimirova won the women's division of The Honolulu Marathon today, surging ahead for good after about mile 17 of the 26.2-mile course.

Biktimirova finished in 2 hours, 33 minutes, 7 seconds.

Akemi Ozaki of Japan was second in 2:34:22. She was in the front pack with Biktimirova through the 21st mile.

Biktimirova started to pull away after the 17th mile in Hawai'i Kai, but Ozaki caught up soon after. The two ran together until the 21st mile past Kalani High School when Biktimirova started to pull away.

Ozaki trailed by about 20 seconds through the 23rd mile in Kahala, but couldn't make up any ground.

Russian Tatyana Petrova was third in 2:36:56. She was not in the women's pack during the race.
