Ten people, including three thrown from the bed of pickup trucks, escaped critical injuries today in two separate motor vehicle accidents on Kalaniana'ole Highway near the Halona or "Blow Hole" lookout.

Honolulu Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said seven people were taken to The Queen's Medical Center in a 6 p.m. collision involving a car and pickup truck. Three others, meanwhile, suffered serious injuries when the pickup truck they were in struck a guardrail.

A 25-year-old woman driver of a car and five of six teens, ages 14-17, in a pickup were taken to the hospital in stable condition from the early evening collision, Cheplic said. Another teen who was thrown from the pickup had serious injuries, said Cheplic.

Three of six people taken to Queen's from the earlier accident had minor injuries. Three others, who were in the bed of the truck, were taken in serious condition to Queen's. Two of the bed riders were ejected, said Cheplic.
