'Best of Christmas' music plays again

Advertiser Staff

This holiday season marks the 20th anniversary of Keith Haugen's production of a holiday album, "The Best of Christmas 1987," for The Honolulu Advertiser.

Haugen approached The Advertiser with a fund-raising idea that involved record companies, labels, producers, artists and composers. The Advertiser liked the idea and gave him the OK to produce a special Christmas recording.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary, Hawai'i Public Radio will air the entire recording on the "Music of Hawai'i" program at 3 p.m. today on KIPO, 89.3 FM (www.hawaiipublicradio.org).

On that album — in order of play — are the Waimanalo Keikis, Melveen Leed, Randy & Gay Hongo, The Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, Frank DeLima, Na Kaholokula, The Honolulu Boy Choir, Karen Keawehawai'i, Keith & Carmen Haugen, Ohta-san, Leo Nahenahe Singers and The Brothers Cazimero.
