NEW YORK — Hawai'i quarterback Colt Brennan acknowledged he has precious memories of this football season.

His wish is the good times will continue to roll.

Brennan said he hopes UH will build on a year highlighted by an unbeaten regular season, a berth in a Bowl Championship Series post-season game, and Brennan's third-place finish in the Heisman balloting.

The athletic department will earn more than $4 million for the Warriors' Sugar Bowl appearance.

Brennan said the program will grow if the school "does a great job and takes the money and the momentum and does what (it is) supposed to, and gives it to the students, and gives a reason for all of the student-athletes to really feel like it's a pleasure to go to Hawai'i. We have the talent and the attitude. We need the school to make it just as beautiful."

Brennan said the atmosphere in Hawai'i "is college football at its best. It's a unique place with unique people. It's a diamond in the rough."

Brennan also said he favors a playoff system to determine the national champion. For that to work, Brennan said, the regular season would have to be reduced to 10 games.

"You can't ask a student to play a ton of games," he said.

Although the Warriors are the only undefeated team, they are not in consideration for a national title.

"Right now, we're playing a (Georgia) team (in the Sugar Bowl) that was up for (consideration for) the national championship game, and we're an undefeated team," Brennan said. "We're going to look to win this football game. It's tough. I understand the conference we came from. I understand the schedule we have this year. We really don't have a (regular-season) win that that really warrants us going to a big (national championship) game like that.

"But defeating Georgia would do that. Who knows who's really playing in a national championship game right now? I just know if we beat Georgia, we'll make that statement we've always tried to make for the last two years."

WRITERS' ALL-AMERICANS

UH'S SATELE HONORED

Hawai'i senior offensive lineman Hercules Satele was named to the Football Writers Association of America's 64th All-America Team, it was announced yesterday.

Satele joins three other offensive linemen on the team: Anthony Collins of Kansas, Jake Long of Michigan and Ryan Stanchek of West Virginia.

Satele, a 6-foot-3, 293-pound guard, was named to the all-Western Athletic Conference first team earlier this week.

Other notables on the All-America team include Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, Arkansas running back and Heisman finalist Darren McFadden, linebacker and Butkus Award winner James Laurinatis of Ohio State, wide receiver and Blietnikoff Award winner Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech, and center and Rimington Trophy winner Jonathan Luigs of Arkansas.
