Honolulu, Molokai and Lanai airports slated for work

Associated Press

The state will be spending $717,000 on design work for aircraft rescue and firefighting improvements at three airports.

Half a million dollars will be used to design a new three-bay garage that provides sufficient clearance for Honolulu International Airport's new rescue vehicles.

Plans also call for a wider and extended driveway to give the vehicles maneuvering room to drive straight out of the aircraft rescue and fire fighting station toward the airfield.

Meanwhile, $217,000 has been set aside for additional design costs involved in moving the Lanai Airport and Molokai Airport stations. The aim of the projects is to provide better access to the airfields.
