Full water service nearly restored on Maui

Advertiser Staff

WAILUKU — Water service is expected to be restored this evening to residents in Keokea, according to Maui County water officials.

Service was restored earlier today to customers on Koheo Road.

The last waterline break repaired today was discovered late Saturday afternoon and required Water

Department welders to fabricate steel trestles to accommodate the gulch crossing, officials said at 3:20 p.m.

The system is being flushed and residents are advised to boil water before drinking it as a precaution until laboratory staff can collect samples to ensure the safety of the water.

The Department of Water Supply will provide public advisories when tests determine boiling is no longer needed.

Water service has been restored to the rest of the island, including West Maui where Department of Water Supply crews manually cleared the intake at the Lahaina Water Treatment Facility and surface water was treated to allow Lahainaluna High School to reopen.

For water service problems, customers should call the Department of Water Supply's 24-hour service number at (808) 270-7633.
