Modifications made to Kauai Recycles bins

Advertiser Staff

Kaua'i Recycles bins will be modified to accommodate the increase in cardboard and plastic being recycled, the Department of Public Works announced.

The large, newly configured bins will feature two deposit slots for cardboard as well as compartments for glass and newspaper. Plastic No. 1 and No. 2 along with aluminum will now be

collected in a separate six-yard container at the site.

As in the past, an additional four-yard container is available for mixed paper.

The change has already been implemented at two drop sites — Hanalei transfer station and Brennecke's Beach Broiler.

The rest of the locations will be phased in during the month of December including: 'Ele'ele Shopping Center; Kekaha Landfill; Kmart in Lihu'e; Kapa'a, near the Armory on Kahau Road; Lawa'i Post Office; and Waimea Canyon Park.

Residents are asked to check deposit slots on the back side of the bin if it appears full, deposit loose materials without bags and to break down all cardboard and boxes.
